RedHat has an option about sending EOF after each job - can this be
causing it?

Alternatively you can try adding the option

-h

to the line describing the print command in smb.conf

lpr -h -P%p %s

Another option is to use telnet to the printer and turn it off,
or HPwebjet admin (comes for both NT and Linux download from HP)
