Okay, I'll help. :)  You might want to have a look at http://www.sun.com, 
and in the upper-right corner, click on StarOffice.  StarOffice is a 
office suite of apps and it has the ability to read and write MS Office97 
documents.  You can elect to do an initial network install, and then 
install a workstation (the bulk of the files being resident on your 
network server).

I cannot comment on sending Word files directly to Samba, because I use 
Vmware for the few things I have to do THAT way. :)
