Yes, it works for me. I just did it again with a new user.
This is the relevant part of my smb.conf:

        [global]
        security = user
        status = yes
        workgroup = GRPKP
        wins support = yes
        preferred master = yes
        domain master = yes
        local master = yes
        encrypt passwords = yes
        domain logons = yes
        logon home = \\%L\%U
        logon path = \\%L\%U\profiles
        log file = /usr/local/samba/log/log.%m
        domain admin users = root
        guest account = ftp
        share modes = no
        os level = 65

        [homes]
        guest ok = no
        read only = no
        create mask = 0700
        directory mask = 0700
        locking = no

        [Profiles]
        path = /home/%U/profiles
        browseable = no
        writeable = yes
        guest ok = yes

        [netlogon]
        path = /usr/local/samba/netlogon
        writeable = no
        guest ok = no
