NT machine accounts in FreeBSD?

I posted a message to the samba list, but then I
figured people on this list might have more of and
idea on this one.
It seems to me that freeBSD doesn't like login names
with a '$' in them.  Is it possible to somehow add the
required NT machine account (machinename$) to a FreeSD
system so as to allow login from and NT workstation to
a SAMBA controlled Domain?
