You may also want to try egcs instead of gcc 2.8.1.  I've been
told gcc 2.8 generates interesting code on Solaris/Sparc.  You
can get a precompiled version from www.sunfreeware.com.

I don't know that that will work, my Samba server isn't on
Solaris (though it will be later), but just a generic
suggestion.
