"This request is not supported by the network"

When I try to login from my window 98 box I get through the authentication
but I get (on windows) the message "This request is not supported by the
network.
The log file for the windows machine has as its only records
"authorise_login: TODO. split function, it's 6 levels!" which I din't
believe is an error message.
Anyone has any ideas?
