SWAT and FreeBSD 3.1

Actually I have the same problem. I have Samba 2.0.3 on a RH5.2 box.  If
anybody could shed some light on this I would appreciate it.  Also I
tried to smbpasswd root
and it gave me the error

getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number)

Is this a normal repsonse?
