2 questions - munged service names and password sync

Doh!  As it happens, though, when run by root, SunOS 5.5.1
/usr/bin/passwd issues no such success message.  It just goes
	New password:
	Re-enter new password:
and that's all.  OK, change that, and try again:
	machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : \
	  The specified password is invalid.
	Failed to change password for luser
Same error.
