Wow, you must have a lot of time available to read such things ...
The samba log files are more about hunting bugs than generating reports,
how about this :

In your 'homes' share add these two lines :

root preexec= echo \"%u connected  from %m at %T\" >> disk2/samba/var/use.log
root postexec=echo \"%u disconnect from %m at %T\" >> disk2/samba/var/use.log
