I'm working on an auditing patch to samba, which may provide the
functionality you are looking for.  It currently interfaces with syslog to
log various actions, and you could parse the output file and insert it into
your database.

More information, including a patch against 2.0.0beta5 (I think it should
apply okay to 2.0.0 production, but let me know if it doesn't) is available

It is still beta, and there are numerous things I want to change about it,
but I've been using it in my production environment for about 4 months with
no problems.
