How Do I get rpc_client to authenticate against trusted domains

I am using rpc_client to establish a connection to a PDC.
The establish connection works when the PDC's SAM has an
account for the user but does not work when the PDC trusts a
domain that has an account for the user.
Should this work?
Is there anything I can do to smb.conf to enable this?
