Problems with ./configure

Hello group,
 
I am trying to build the latest HEAD code on a UnixWare 7.  Have been able
to bring in the CVS tree with no problem.  The problem that I am having is
that when I run ./configure as root, it bombs out when checking HOSTTYPE.
It appears that it cannot guess what the HOSTTYPE is.  I am running this
on a Compaq Proliant 1600 server.  If anyone could help me out this would
be greatly appreciated.
