Shares over WAN...

I have machines connected over WAN, with no problems at all. Just make them
look at the same WINS and it works.

But Windows seems very picky on lost packets and delays. Once a
fibre-tranciever scrambled packets (up to 35% packetloss in periods) and I
got the problems you described.  Check you connections.
