Problems with smbpasswd-program

I have Andrew's problem too, on Red Hat. I didn't bug it because I
thought it might be Red Hat specific. I have the exact same symtoms,
gives error but works with no file, will not work subsequently.
I'm using a 3-5 day old cvs tree (main branch) code.
