i find this strange.  you didn't create the group "Modem_Users" yourself,
did you?

the S-1-5-21-87xxxxx-177xxxx-31xxxxx is the SID for the domain.
concatenate this with a RID and you have a worldwide unique method to
identify a user / group / entity.
