RFC 1001 and 1002 and the files in /docs/ of the samba distribution are
very good.
Samba is software that allows a Unix box to serve files / printers to SMB
clients ( ie. microsoft ). Also can be set up as a domain controller for
Windows 95 / NT clients.

more info on the list server.
