   <div class="article">
   <p>In November, we mentioned this
   <a href="/samba/news/announcements/#socal_call">Call for Papers</a> from the
   Southern California Linux Expo. The conference has indeed scheduled a Samba
   presentation. Jeffrey Bianchine will be presenting
   "<a href="http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/speakers/speakers_bianchine.php">Developing
   Management Strategies and Tools for Samba</a>." Some may remember that Jeffrey
   spoke at SambaXP 2003.</p>

   <p>From Jeffrey's abstract:</p>

   <blockquote>
   <p>Installing smbd and nmbd on hosts and then configuring
   smb.conf is but the beginning of life with Samba. There are
   processes to monitor, logs to analyze, shares to administer, and
   users to manage.</p>

   <p>Rarely is any of this steady-state. Rather, change (gradual and
   dramatic) is the rule.</p>

   <p>This talk presents practical ideas about Samba planning and
   management, emphasizing tools to facilitate ongoing
   administration. Existing administrative tools are presented, and
   new tool development discussed.</p>
   </blockquote>

   <p>Southern California Linux Expo 3x will be held on February 12-13th, 2005.
