Thanks for the feedback Guenther.  I'm keen on getting this fixed too,
although it is turning out to take longer than I expected to keep everything
working across all platforms supported by Samba.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to revert back a few revisions for
the next beta release so I can have some more time to get all this code
just right.  I think the effort will be worth it in the end.
