Herb,

I'm sorry I didn't explain what was broken more carefully. Looking at
your patch, I wonder if maybe you accidentially committed the 2.2 code
instead of the patch you meant to commit? The patch you committed is
at:

The symptoms were that smbpasswd never prompted for a password. This
made it impossible to set a password at all. I know it broke on every
platform as every system on the build farm went red, all with the same
symptoms (unable to set a password).

Maybe it only broke with -L ? 

Anyway, I should have explained this more carefully at the time. Sorry
for sending such a abrupt commit message.
