installation samba

Hi 
I tried to install samba software on my server
My server : Sco open server 5.04
But when I bagin to install the software the system gave me message

Cc:     gcc    no
Cc:     cc      no
These messages I think it means there is no c compiler on the system
So I download gcc compiler from sco site and install it on my server
But when I begin to install the samba it make checking on the gcc compiler
but it gave me message that the gcc compiler is not working 

So I need your help to make a good installation of the samba on my sco
