it's tricky, isn't it!

NT4 sp4 and above are *much* fussier about those offsets, and because
microsoft slowly reworked this code, the earlier you go back, the less
fussy they get, until you get to NT4 no-sp and you can BSOD it by sending
trash-in-the-header, request or response.
