The RPC call stuff in HEAD I regard as the "correct" version.

Oh I do. Whenever I have a problem with an RPC I bring
the code back from HEAD, and if it's still broken then
work on it. That's how I found the logon/logoff packet
differences. The only reason I found that was the new
range checking code in 2.0 was complaining about a read
overrun of 2 bytes (the uint16) when reading a logoff
packet. The range checking code is a godsend :-).
