Exactly the same as Samba does (now :-) :-).

Seriously, this just means that when someone
types an abortion like :

dir ????.*.*.*.????.*

on a Samba mounted drive they get *exactly* the
same response as they would get in the same
directory on an NT mounted drive.

The :

dir *.

case was the complete *bastard* to fix :-).
(Try it on a non-patched version of Samba
and also against NT).
