I've asked that question myself.  The prompt is actually output with a
call to DEBUG(), which I found odd.  This is also done in smbmount.c
(though I don't know why smbmount.c should print an smb: prompt).

In any case, a dbgflush() function is a reasonable thing to have in
debug.c, from a theoretcial point of view.  The question of it being a
good idea in client.c and smbmount.c is another topic (but a good one).  
I just don't have any answers on that.
