Hi,

This error could probably come from the drop of an unstable network connection. Check my recent post about it: http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg26280.html

In my case, the solution was to use rsync over a ssh tunnel. The ssh tunnel is more robust about network problems than plain rsync.
