I'm just thinking out loud, but my guess is you are going to replace the 
memory/hardware ?

Maybe it's just me, but might this be a TCP-offloading problem ?

Have a look at:

ethtool -k eth0

And turn it off it it's on and see it will go away.

I've seen problems with it.

Via Rhine isn't really on my list of really great (or supported) chips.

I could be wrong ofcourse. But maybe it will help you.
