rsync 2.6.9 uses a lot of memory; has that changed in rsync 3.0.3 ?

The issue has been addressed by the addition of incremental recursion in
rsync 3.0.0.  However, I would not call rsync 3.0 a rewrite: there are
many added features and bug fixes but the codebase is just as tangled
(IMHO; Wayne may disagree) as ever.
