I changed the function to limit the path cleanup that it will do (only allowing
a single ../ to be collapsed).

As for the itemizing of the root dir when doing a copy like this:

rsync -ai dir/ newdir/

I decided that I would like to see the "./" dir being itemized as a new
creation, so I added code to make that happen.
