Close list to outsider's posts?

I don't subscribe to the list, but occasionally read it via
web archive.  I have a question perhaps once a year, so subscribing and
then unsubscribing just to post a single question and a few subsequent 
responses would be quite bothersome.  

I'm assuming there's a few other lurkers out there like me as well.
>From the web archives I've seen there's really not much spam at all.
