I just applied this version to my local copy. On FreeBSD with gcc-3.2.1 it
produces a bunch of warnings about unused variables and a number of these:

../rsync/popt/popt.h:444: warning: type qualifiers ignored on function return type

does suggest that these warnings are harmless though.
