I have seen similar "stalls" with rsync running under apt-proxy with a
timeout. However, in this case the rsync is just transfering a single file,
so the directory transfer time is nothing and the stall occurrs after about
5 mins. With a timeout value of 15mins, the rsync client just sits there
untill the 15min timout happens when it dies.

I suspect something going wrong with the timeout negotiation between the
client and server. If I do the transfer manually without a timeout it works
fine. I haven't looked into this too hard yet, as I was not sure if it was
something apt-proxy related, or perhaps a kernel 2.4.17 issue, or maybe
something strange in the firewall in the middle etc.

however, my recent test doing it manualy suggests it's probably an rsync
problem.
