any more ideas?

I have tried:

rsync -avv --include "/film/jonah/**/sourceimages/*.tif" --exclude "*" 
/film /tmp
rsync -avv --include "/film/jonah/*/sourceimages/*.tif" --exclude "*" 
/film /tmp

My mistake.  I never use the patterns in my application, so i forgot one 
of the gotchas in the doc.
