Problem making on Solaris8

I am tryinmg to build rsync 2.5.2 on Solaris 8 with gcc 3.0.3 and two of 
the tests fail:  longdir and symlink-ignore.  Any ideas?  Am I missing 
an option to configure or is there an OS param I need to change?
