I have notified the popt maintainer of some problems I am having with the
latest version, 1.6.4, and am now waiting for his response. Once these issues
have been resolved I'll repost a patch to our popt, bringing it up to date to
the latest version.

I am also working on getting the FreeBSD port of popt updated to the latest
version as well.

This has been done; the FreeBSD port no longer uses the bundled popt.
