Wow Steve - nice work on the long and thoughtful post around partitioning.

You have piqued my interest somewhat because I am pondering disk config on
my recently assembled Raptor Systems Blackbird Power9 desktop machine.

In order to get it running at all, I just bought a couple of Samsung 1TB
SSDs and bunged them onto the SATA interface, vaguely intending some sort
of RAIDed boot drives but with no clear plan for doing that. Fedora 30 for
PPC Just Works[tm] but I would like to reinstall with a slightly saner
drive config.
