[clug] February 2019 CLUG Meeting

I appreciate the jokes about 20 words or less, lol.

Apathy_and_Arsenic_a_Victorian_Era_lesson_on_fighting_the_surveillance_state
was enjoyable.  Does anyone remember the old movie Arsenic and Old
Lace ?

As I guess you are aware of, here we go again with yet another CPU
bug.  Are we getting so used to such bugs we will end up not reacting
(apathy), and not bothering to patch?  I wonder what the chances of
someone creating a virus one day that takes out >80 of Internet
connected computers? I am guessing that such an impact would not be
easy to perform. I also wonder when we will get to see CPUs that are
not so flawed but  still have reasonable performance?  Will such
impact IOT now and in the future (i.e. how many IOT devices have not
been patched for flaws?).

I do not need to upgrade my systems, but would like to, that is once I
feel that mitigations for known CPU bugs have been made in silicon,
however each time I am thinking we have reached this point, another
CPU flaw is discovered. Will we get to a point where CPUs have no
known flaws?

One URL? http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2019 (has all
the videos etc.)
