The Canberra Python User Group has run a few hackathons. They've
been much more informal, just reserve a space (so far the same space
used for regular meetings) for an entire evening. Some people turn up
and work on something Python related, often a project they've talked
about before. Some beginners show up, and others try to help them
get started with Python, from installation to tutorials to particular topics
of interest.
