Hi everyone,

I am not an active member of the community and I only been to a few events and meetings. But I had a pleasure to meet some of the members of the CLUG community to enjoy pizza or dinner after the meetup. I usually don't follow all the email threads, but the frequency of this thread got my attention. After reading the posts, I was sad to see a complete lack of principle of charity[1] and critical thinking[2]. So it is refreshing to see common sense coming back, thanks to Jim and Bob.

It is shocking to see how quickly the groupthink[3] can hijack the whole debate within just a few clicks. Unfortunately, this is a social psychology textbook example, so it does not surprise it all turned into the Monty Python Argument Clinic[4] instead of using valid arguments[5].

Code of conduct is a good thing, but it doesn't teach you critical thinking and how to argue for, instead of against. I am afraid that it won't be long before another post sparks another social conflict. The COC doesn't teach you willingness to understand the other person disposition, to calm things down when they get heated and more essential to be compassionate to people who may need your help or understanding.

I hope that some will be able to learn from this experience.

Ah yes. Well spotted. It now works.

This CoC looks very similar to those mentioned on HUMBUG website. I'm sure I can meet these requirements.

My granny would approve. ;--)

Thanks, Elena:

Some members don't attend, as they fear the highbrow technology!

People pick up ailments as we get older. Suppose the audience were asked
whether members understood. Then a deaf said that they couldn't hear,
and a vision-impaired person said that they couldn't see?

A depressive person will see their world darkly. Isolation would be no
more skillful than chucking out those with weak hearing or vision!

Neill spoke adversely on this topic. But I disagree that mental illness
cannot be learned about or accommodated. My art tutor has completed the
Mental Health First Aid course. And I know someone who completed a
mental health course at CIT.

{Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental
illness each year. Completing an MHFA Course will help you to develop
the skills to support a friend, family member or co-worker.

Having mental health first aid skills means that you can assist someone
developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health
crisis and make a real difference to your community.}
