So I found a bunch of things describing ADS-B 

And that there are messages that may be sent out, however I can not find a
description of messages in general. Does anyone know where there is a
description of what data is in the prootocl that can be sent out by
Aircraft. I found details on decoding the speed, direction, height, Lat and
Long, but not much else. (and the software will do that anyway)

I also found the open data feeds for worldwide monitoring which do seem
pretty cool.
