Apologies if these aren't the droids you're looking for, but how about a 
Raspberry Pi as a NAS?

Personally I'd be leaning toward the "export via SMB and attach via a 
network cable" solution; OpenFiler/FreeNAS offers a more "polished" 
equivalent.
