Hello Steve,

You could also consider using Python. I'm using iPython Notebook, Pandas
and matplotlib. They are all part of scipy.  There are some example ipython
notebooks are available at http://nbviewer.ipython.org/.

I've found the videos available at http://pyvideo.org/ useful for getting
an overview of what is possible in the areas I've been working in.
