Channel name is an arbitrary string in the channels.conf to identify the
entry. I think awk/perl/python/ruby is the way to go there.
Each app, (tzap, mplayer, xine, whatever) has it's own copy of
channels.conf. I generally give them this copy by simlink to my "source of
truth" copy.
