2^32 == 4294967296 [2 blocks more]

Seems they cheated on the spec and only used 32-bits for number of blocks.

When did 2TB drives come onto the market. 2-3 years ago?
No reason for an older SATA/RAID board to support them.

But like you say: motherboard was properly implemented....
No excuse for the other.
