[clug] A storage issue: raid vs fs

I am seeing a problem with my server storage which I cannot explain
right now.

This evening mythtv was active recording a few programs. The recordings
go into my 7 disk raid6 (holding an ext4 fs).

The weekly raid scrub that was supposed to start this morning did not
happen so I started it manually. This is a standard 'check' run.

Some time later, as I was watching a recorded program, the playback
stopped after 15m. The recording claimed there is actually 30m
recorded and more is being recorded. Mythtv showed it (in the
frontend) progressing with the seconds ticking on and the file
size growing.

Checking the actual file I can see that it stopped growing. The file
size as reported by mythtv is 4.92GB (it is HD) but the file is only
1GB in size.

I seem to recall this happening to me before, when an mdadm check was
running as a recording was active, causing a file to stop growing
and the missing content lost.

There are no worrying messages in the logs. So far (60% done) the
scrub shows a mismatch_cnt of zero. I will run an fsck soon.

Has anyone seen such an event? Any idea what can cause it?

cheers
