Yes, tricky storage needs indeed.

I still think that a solution needs an approach that isn't just the
technical one. Businesses (and in this context research is a business) need
to fully understand the requirements and costs associated with what they
want to do. Users and business owners do need to know that there are no
disk fairies delivering infinite storage from the sky.

That said, I've been buying RAIDs 50TB at a time lately and they're cheap
as chips!  :)
