On Thursday 01 September 2011 Brett Worth asked :

> Is this drive really removable?

	Yes - it sits in a Laser mobile rack but I always switch off before removing it.

> If not then you could just add an entry to the /etc/fstab file.

	Interesting point - the relevant lines of my fstab read :
# <file system>                      <mount point>   <type>  <options>              <dump>
<pass>
       proc                             /proc         proc  nodev,noexec,nosuid       0
0
# / was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=7972e0f3-4ae4-4c77-86bf-8d3580b6c221   /         ext4  errors=remount-ro         0
1
# swap was on /dev/sda6 during installation
UUID=ea7debb7-590c-424b-9389-552b41d5529f none        swap    sw                      0
0
     /dev/fd0                      /media/floppy0     auto  rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8  0
0
	- could I just add another line to that? Incidentally that first UUID refers to the
main partition on my systems drive and the second to the swap partition.

And later Scott Ferguson added :

> I assume you mean "Device notifier[*1]" whey you say "ticked Enable auto
> mount"....

	I actually went in via System Settings - Advanced - Removable devices but that gets
me to the same screen as going in via Device Notifier - Settings - Removable devices

> did you also select "automount on login"?

	Yes

> Is the device listed in "Disconnected devices"

	No - but now I look at it that is a lengthy list in which some entries are to
destinations which will never be used again and some are duplicated - is there any risk in
deleting those?

> What is the file system on your data drive?

	fat32

> Is it a single partition?

	Yes

> Does the drive have a label?

	Yes - EASTON

	In case it is relevant, the Display option in System Settings is set to 'Removable
devices only' - but alternatives are 'Non-removable devices only' and 'All devices'
