Hi,
Happy and prosperous New Year to all!
I need help to decipher "messages" from /var/log/ directory.
The OS is kubuntu 10.10 on a home assembled ("built") computer
with nice big fans, spacious box, 4 GB RAM, immodestly named
supremo. My user name is "ak" The following dialog shows what is
known about the CPU:
ak at supremo:~$ sudo lscpu
[sudo] password for ak:
Architecture: i686
CPU op-mode(s): 64-bit
CPU(s): 4
Thread(s) per core: 1
Core(s) per socket: 4
CPU socket(s): 1
Vendor ID: AuthenticAMD
CPU family: 16
Model: 4
Stepping: 2
CPU MHz: 800.087
Virtualisation: AMD-V
L1d cache: 64K
L1i cache: 64K
L2 cache: 512K
L3 cache: 6144K
ak at supremo:~$
For a while I had sporadically slow booting times, usually
lasting about 5 minutes, while the usual bootint time is
somwhere round 90 sec mark. I ran a ubuntu supplied RAM check
over several hours, which showed all ok. What I found curious
that after the event of slow booting, the log off was not
"normal" - the PC just ignored GUI signals to close. However,
from a console sudo init 0 closed the computer without any
dramas. All in all more of a nuissance than a worry.
This morning I had the slow closing event and took care to look
at the hand watch and recorded that I decided that the event
started before 11:22 and ended about 11:25. So I copied a chunk
of "message" that covers that time. I list the "message"
extract after this text. I do not know what it means and would
appreciate greatly any explanation or advice:

In particular, is the segfault in the RAM? There is a gap of
time between
5 11.20.10
and
5 11.29.08
which suggests that this is the problem time.
