[clug] Budget KVM laptop?

So I'm looking at the abundance of sub $1k laptops with apparently reasonable specs and thinking that with the widespread implementation of chipset VM support, pretty well any of them ought to be OK for a KVM based dev machine.

Is there anything to be aware/beware of as far as the i3 and Core2Duo tier of laptops is concerned? (when it comes to running virtualisations). Has anyone purchased anything they'd particularly recommend as good value?

For example, there's a few Core2Duo Dells with 4Gb RAM and 250 Gb disk for between $500 and $800.
