Thanks Jeff. No, not using Red Hat or similar and on further reading it looks like Spacewalk is firmly in that sphere. As per TB's suggestion I have grabbed a copy of g4l and booted it on a spare machine to take a look. So far, it seems to be what I'm after. Just a step above dd with netcat but nice and open with not too many bells or whistles. -- MC
