Yesterday at CEBIT I chatted to the principals of Opengear in Brisbane.
Bob Waldie used to be CEO of 'Snapgear', kit that many of you might know.

They were showing a small Linux box which he said retailed for ~A$350.
It's ARM-based, ethernet + USB 2.0 and options for wireless (802.11 and
other). Obviously KVM and serial. Was told the RAM & forgot (256Mb?) and
something about a 1Gb on-board flash was mentioned.

They don't seem they have any (other) Aussie distributors - but quite a
few O/S distributors :-)

Products are targeted for rack-servers and are 'hardy' (my word).
They were talking about having won a contract for secure out-of-band
access with a largish FedGov dept with many small/remote offices. They
won because they could handle the extreme environment possible within
the 'special cabinets'.

What *really* impressed me was their commitment to, and generosity
towards, FOSS.

Press Release, Nov 2009, on sponsoring FIPS 140-2 certification of
openSSL/openSSH [with symantex] through OSSI.

Site page on FIPS 140:

The FIPS certificate:

The Security Policy:

While FIPS 140-2 is a NIST (US) certification, there is recognition of
openSSH locally by DSD.

For those of you in FedGovt, DSD does approve use of SSH under
"communications security".
The Unclassified version of ACSI33 "Australian Government Information
Technology Security Manual" [Feb 2004] mentions SSH/SCP/SFTP on p3-77
[para 853]. p3-79 [para 858] discusses EAL2 certification and FIPS 140.
